Darwin community set to wake up and smell the coffee
‘Black Gold – wake up and smell the coffee’ will be screened at the Groove Cafe FREE to the Darwin community on Wednesday May 13th at 7.30 pm.
This free screening has been organised to coincide with Fair Trade Fortnight (2-17 May).
Volunteers of the Darwin Alternative Trading Group have organised this free community event to help raise awareness about the positive community benefits of fair trade.

As part of Fair Trade Fortnight 2009, the Checkout Fairtrade Award for Australia’s Most Fairtrade Friendly Supermarket will be awarded to the retailer stocking the most Fairtrade Certified and Labelled products in the country.
Stocking and selling Fairtrade products means producers, workers and their communities in developing countries get a better deal.

Launching a wallet sized card promoting the cafe's in Launceston that serve FT. Aimed at increasing awareness and impacting the choices of the general public and therefore located at major shopping centres and including free tastings, video display and handing out the cards.

The Justice Squad
The Justice Squad will be hosting a Film Night showing two films - Always Coca Cola and India: Child Labour. At interval all patrons will be served with Fair Trade coffee and cakes and have the opportunity to purchase Fair Trade Coffee (including ground, decafe, beans and coffee bags), chocolate and peanuts. Movie goers can also sign a letter to support the 'Stock the Sock' Fair Trade Cotton Campaign and the 'Don't Trade Lives Campaign.'

Antony has been working as a Social Justice Officer for the Justice and International Mission Unit of the Synod for more than three years. He was previously involved in various social justice campaigns before working for the Synod, predominantly in the education sector.
